What is GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a legal framework designed to enhance and harmonize data privacy across the European Union. Its primary goal is to give individuals more control over their personal data and to streamline regulations for businesses operating within the EU.
Core Principles of GDPR
- Lawful, Fair, and Transparent Processing
Personal data must be handled in a way that is fair, lawful, and transparent to the individual. - Purpose Limitation
Data should be collected for specific, legitimate purposes and not used in ways that are incompatible with those purposes. - Data Minimization and Accuracy
Only the data necessary for the intended purpose should be collected and must be kept accurate and up to date. - Storage Limitation
Personal data should not be retained longer than necessary for the stated purpose. - Individual Rights
EU residents have the right to access, update, delete, restrict, or transfer their personal data. - Security and Confidentiality
All personal data must be protected using appropriate technical and organizational measures. - Data Protection Officer
Organizations involved in certain types of data processing must appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO).
GDPR and Unscribe
